"About six decades ago I made my first sourcing trip at age 24 to Srinagar as a part of the Cottage Industries Emporium. I was overwhelmed by the artisans and their craftsmanship; I admired their skill, or karigari. I worked on promoting Kashmiri crafts through these decades. Today at age 87, I am convinced that the new generation of Kashmiri artisans can reach great heights with the right design assistance, technical knowledge, marketing help and nurturing a sense of the global markets, they can sell at a scale anywhere in the world."
